Origin and Family
According to myth Tefnut and her brother Shu came from the bodily fluids of Atum. They were the first to populate the earth and from them were born Nut the goddess of the sky and Geb the god of the earth Nut and Geb then gave birth to other gods.
Depiction and Symbols
The goddess of moisture Tefnut is often depicted as a human with the head of a lioness Some hieroglyphs also show her as a serpent with a lioness head She wears a solar disk on her head representing her direct link to Atum the sun god.
Goddess of Humidity and Rain
Tefnut is the goddess of humidity and rain. According to one myth after a quarrel with her husband Shu the god of air she fled and turned into a lioness and would attack anyone who approached Eventually Thoth the god of wisdom persuaded her to come home.
