Menhit Goddess Of Warfare
Menhit was a big deal in ancient Egyptian mythology a lion goddess and war goddess from Nubia. Her name means he who sacrifices and also earned her the nickname "the butcher". As a war goddess she led the pharaoh’s armies into battle raining down fiery arrows on their enemies like other war goddesses of the time.
She was syncretized with several other goddesses including Sekhmet Wadjet and Neith showing her many roles in Egyptian religion. She was depicted as a lion headed woman with a solar disk and the Ureas (a serpent symbol) and was closely associated with Neith especially at Esna and was called the Eye of Ra along with goddesses like Tefnut, Sekhmet and Hathor.
In Upper Egypt Menhit was the consort of Khnum and the mother of the sorceress god Hekka. In Lower Egypt her worship was linked with Wadjet and Neith, two major patron deities of the region.
Menhit’s cult was centered in Abydos where she was a main figure and in the Delta where she was a protective goddess with Wadjet and Neith. She was the vigilant eyes of Ra, hunting and bringing back the enemies of the sun god, with Onuris.
